Port Albert - September 4, 2007

Larry thought he'd treat us to the best fish and chips in Victoria, down at Port Albert. Well he wasn't kidding it was good stuff. We had flake and scallops. Good eats!

We then stopped at a museum of the history of the area. Natalie had asked the curator if it was possible to loan this ball and chain out. It easily weighs 30 lbs. Wouldn't want to drag that around.

They used this device from land when there was a man overboard. It would be shot from land to the boat and then the person in the water would hand over hand drag themselves back to land. We imagine it wouldn't not have been too fun.

Thomson River Dam - September 3, 2007

Larry took us up to see the Thomson Storage Reservoir. The Reservoir serves all of Melbourne but is located in Gippsland.

It was sort of a rainy day but the view was pretty cool.

Bairnsdale Dragway - Mick racing the Monaro - September 2, 2007

Drag racing anyone? Mick once a year takes the Monaro to Bairnsdale Dragway to it's annual drag meet. About an 1hr from Tyres we all got up early and took the trip to see the race.

A Holden Monaro is equilant to the North American Pontiac Firebird. It has a 501 in it and runs the mile in about 8 sec.

Thomson River Diversion Tunnel - September 1, 2007

After Brunton's Bridge, Mick took us to the Thomson River Diversion Tunnel, also known as the Horseshoe Bend Tunnel
The tunnel was blasted right through the land allowing the river to be diverted so the river bed could be panned for alluvial gold.

Brunton’s Bridge - September 1, 2007

Mick took us up to old Brunton's bridge. The bridge isn't far out of Tyres and close to Wallhalla.

Brunton's Bridge once transported gold.

Unfortunately because of bush fires and floods of late the bridge has slowly broken down.

This is the reminance of last summer's bush fire in the area.

You can actually see the regrowth as trees are quite resilient.

Huge fire at Rosemary's - August 30, 2007

On August 30 we decided that "Burning Down the House" was in order. Well that is what Roe thought might happen when she saw the size of the pile we put together.

You can see that the tree on the left of the fire caught fire for a bit. But firemarshal Mick said no worries it will go out. Thankfully he was right.
